Reaction following 1-1 draw in Podgorica


Dejan Damjanovic scored a late equaliser as Montenegro held England to a 1-1 draw in an action-packed World Cup qualifier on Tuesday to maintain their two-point lead at the top of Group H.

"We, the Montenegro team, are overwhelmed and happy that in three games against England we did not lose. Because for Montenegro to compete with England and stay on the top of the group is something no-one expected. But we managed it."

"I can say, without offending anyone here, both the English or ourselves, that if our team was complete, we would have beaten England."

"To have won the game, we would have had to play the second half like we played the first half. We passed the ball well there, and we had control in the midfield, and in the second half unfortunately we lost that control, and Montenegro had a good spell, they took the game to us, got some corner kicks and one of them resulted. We got back on track, I think, with some good chances ourselves. My overall feeling is one of disappointment, because at half-time things were looking good for us, and in the end we had to settle for draw. I don't think it's a particularly bad result as such, because Montenegro are difficult team to beat, but on the other hand it would have been nice if we had profited from our advantage at half-time, maybe built on it, and gone with all three points."

"We think with three out of four (qualifying) games at home, it's still in our hands - and we intend to keep it in our hands by winning those matches."
