Two sides struggling for form met at the Stadio Artemio Franchi as Fiorentina hosted Chievo. The Viola were looking to haul themselves back towards the Champions League places after a disappointing two-one defeat to Bologna last time out but on four minutes Manuel Pasqual hit a stunning free-kick beyond Christian Puggioni to give the home side the lead.

On 11 minutes Cyril Thereau found himself unmarked in the Fiorentina penalty area but could only direct his header wide. Fiorentina should have been out of sight by half time after Jovetic and Pasqual both spurned great chances.

Chievo capitalised on Fiorentina’s wasteful finishing on 37 minutes when Isaac Cofie latched on to Roberto Guana’s cross and slotted the ball past Emiliano Viviano.

The first real chance of the second half fell to Alberto Paloschi - The Italian found himself with a yard of space in the Fiorentina penalty area but could only fire the ball over from 8 yards out. Borja Valero then had time on the edge of the Chievo box to pick his spot but the Spaniard could only curl the ball wide before Larrondo missed from 6 yards..

The Argentine did get the last laugh however when Luca Toni’s header back across goal ricocheted off Larrondo’s head to give the home side all three points.
