Lazio had a great chance after 16 minutes, as Hernanes curled a long-range free kick on to the crossbar as Michael Agazzi back-pedalled furiously.

However, moments later Radja Nainggolan won back possession in midfield to spark a Victor Ibarbo counter-attack. It was rolled back across for Nainggolan, whose shot from eight yards got a touch off Federico Marchetti and Andre Dias needed a goalline clearance to keep it out.

Miroslav Klose also went close when he rounded the keeper but the angle was against him as the dragged the ball wide to see the score stay goaless at half time.

In a frantic second half Lazio defeated Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.On 62 minutes, the Stadio Olimpico was silenced as Cagliari surprisingly found themselves out in front. Marco Sau received the ball from Danilo Avelar, dribbled past a defender, and placed a precision strike into the bottom left corner to give the beleaguered Sardinians hope.

However, Cagliari’s luck had finally run out as Abdoulay Konko stabbed home from Giuseppe Biava’s headed across the face of goal from a corner.

On 83 minutes, calamity struck the Isolani. Agazzi was sent off and a penalty awarded to Lazio as the keeper collided with Klose as each closed in on the ball in the area. To make matters worse for the visitors, Cossu was also dismissed for dissent in the tussle that followed, leaving Cagliari with 9 men. Vlada Avramov came on to defend the spot-kick, but was beaten by Antonio Candreva as the Stadio Olimpico exploded with the Aquile now in the lead.
