Newcastle looking to secure Premier League status against QPR
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew looks ahead of their English Premier League game at Queens Park Rangers.
Newcastle United currently sit fourth from bottom in the English Premier League and will be looking for a vital win as they look to avoid the drop.
Alan Pardew's side have only picked up two points from their last four league matches and recently suffered heavy home defeats to Sunderland (0-3) and Liverpool (0-6).
Goals have also been hard to come by for Newcastle United, they've failed to find the net in four of their last six league matches.
They travel to already-relegated QPR on Sunday (12th May) knowing a win would put them six points clear of the relegation zone.
SOUNDBITE: (English) (Q: Has Wigan's defeat to Swansea during the week meant that you go into the QPR a little bit more relaxed than if the result had gone the other way?)
"I suppose a little bit. There was a little bit of tension - in terms of when the result came through, (it) lifted (the squad), you could probably sense that at the training ground. But it still makes the task not easier, we still need to get something at QPR and hopefully get ourselves an away win, where our away has been poor this year. So hopefully that's what we'll do."
SUPER CAPTION: Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager
SOUNDBITE: (English) (Q: The pressure is off QPR, will that make them more dangerous?)
"Well they've got goalscorers and Bobby Zamora I've worked with, Loic Remy we tried to bring in here. So we know the two strikers very, very well and we're going to need to be on our guard against them, because they can get goals. And obviously they have (Adel) Taarabt, who is their kind of Hatem Ben Arfa and he can create you something out of nothing. So you know I can't say that this game is a game that we are confident of winning. We are positive in our attitude to go there and try and win."
SUPER CAPTION: Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager
SOUNDBITE: (English) (Q: Does David Moyes' appointment as Manchester United manager show that loyalty and longevity has its rewards?)
"No I think what that shows is that you don't need to win a trophy because the football world will notice the conditions that you're working under, because David Moyes hasn't won a trophy, but has been absolutely superb in the job that he's done. I think it's six top-six finishes in his time, in eleven years or something, that's remarkable for the budget that he's worked under. So I'm absolutely delighted for him. We more or less started our careers at similar times as managers, so I've watched David and admired his work and, you know, I wish him all the best. It's a tough job, but there is a tough character going in there to do it."
